Quinceañera

On Saturday, August 26 at 1:00 PM, Maria Montano of Indiana Township celebrated her Quinceañera at Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church.  Father Leon from St. Augustine Priory in Lawrenceville was the celebrant.

A Quinceañera is the Hispanic tradition of celebrating a young girl's coming of age - her 15th birthday. The celebrations embrace religious customs, and the virtues of family and social responsibility. The Quinceañera tradition celebrates the young girl (la Quinceañera), and recognizes her journey from childhood to maturity.

The customs highlight God, family, friends, music, food, and dance.  After the church ceremony, the celebration continued with a banquet and dancing for family and friends.

Maria, the daughter of Pablo & Maria Montano, is a freshman at Fox Chapel High School.
