Deer Lakes
One hundred and fifty eight Deer Lakes students entered Lancer Stadium to the strains of “Pomp and Circumstance” on Thursday, June 7 as Mr. Pat Baughman, Deer Lakes High School principal, welcomed family and friends to com- mencement at Deer Lakes High School Lancer Stadium.
Graduates enlisting in the military and graduates volun- teering at our local Emergency Response departments led their classmates and the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.
National Honor Society President Christopher J. Galbraith, Student Council President Karns Wilson Hazlett, and National Honor Society Vice President Joshua Daniel Solomon addressed their classmates prior to the presentation of diplomas.
After the speeches and recognitions, Mr. Baughman presented the 158 members of the Class of 2018 to those present for gradua- tion.
Deer Lakes Superintendent Dr. Janell Logue-Belden and Deer Lakes School Board President Mr. William A. Lupone, Jr. recog- nized excellence and celebrated success in their speeches to the Class of 2018.
The Class of 2018 garnered more than $2,500,000 in scholar-
ships to various colleges and universities.
A select group of chorus members sang the Alma Mater. Finally, Dr. Logue-Belden, Mr. Lupone, Mr. Baughman, Mr.
Ryan Aleski, Deer Lakes High School Assistant Principal, and select members of the school board presented the class members with their diplomas.
Austin Brian Dorman led his classmates in the tassel-changing ceremony signifying their graduation from high school.
To the Deer Lakes Class of 2018 - Behind you are all of the accomplishments you have achieved and all of the challenges that you have conquered. Before you lay new horizons filled with end- less possibilities. Use them well and wisely. Congratulations!
Memorial Day Services Hosted by West Deer American Legion Members
Among the more than 100 specta- tors taking part in the Memorial Day festivities at the West Deer William Fish American Legion were Korean Veterans from left to right: Hugie Riscoe, Charlie Tahon, and Denny Swigart. After the ceremony, those in attendance were treated to a buffet luncheon in the Legion banquet hall.
