Deer Lakes Announces Google Chromebook Distribution Dates
Starting this school year, as part of Deer Lakes’ expanded One-to-One ini- tiative, the school district will provide individual Google Chromebooks for all students in sixth through 12th grades to take home. Students in Kindergarten through fifth grade will also each be provided with a One-to-One device, but those tools will not go home with the students.
District residents can familiarize themselves with the program before the start of school by visiting our website, www.deerlakes.net.
Parents are asked to pick up their students’ devices at Deer Lakes High School between noon and 6 p.m., during any one of six available pick up dates including: Monday, Aug. 6, Tuesday, Aug. 7, Monday, Aug. 13, Tuesday, Aug. 14, Monday, Aug. 20 and Tuesday, Aug. 21. Parents must complete and return a waiver for their device before their student will be permitted to take it home. Please schedule your pick up in advance by using the registration form found on the website.
Also, Deer Lakes will be hosting a One-to-One Information Night in the
high school auditorium at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25. The hour-long presen-
tation will be designed to give parents and students at all grade levels a brief
overview of Deer Lakes’ One-to-One program, as well as advice on what they
can do to best take advantage of their powerful learning tool. For the past two years, Deer Lakes has piloted the One-to-One program at the middle school and high school levels with overwhelmingly favorable reviews from the students and staff alike. Deer Lakes now joins a small handful of Allegheny County schools to employ the program at all 12 grade levels.
Volunteers and friends welcome the new addition to West Deer Volunteer Volunteer Fire Company #3, Station 290. The new addition is a 2018 E-One 100 ft ladder truck with a 2000 gallon per minute pump, 500 gallon water tank, and elevated master stream. The truck has seating for 6 firefighters and is powered by a Cummins ISX12 500 HP engine. It is equipped with an on
board generator, carries a full complement of hose and ground ladders as well as saws and other firefighting equipment. Safety features include lighted steps and hand rails, headsets and com- puter assisted aerial operations. The new truck provides a longer aerial ladder with less width needed to setup outriggers.
