Depreciation Lands Museum Offers Morning Summer Camp

Adventures in Pioneer Living - June 18-22 -- for children ages 8 through 12 -- Traditional Week long morning camp 9-11:45am ,

You can experience life as an Indian or as a Pioneer!

The year is 1792. Revolutionary War Soldiers have been purchasing land here in Western PA since 1783 with Depreciation Land Certificates, as payment for their time in the military. The Iroquois are still reluctant to give up their ancient hunting grounds in the area. And now, the land has been opened for homesteaders! The Militia is mustering to protect the settlers.

Registration for the camp is open to children 8-12 years of age. The week-long Camp runs from 9:00 am until 11:45 am, and includes Indian and Pioneer units.

Each day will focus on different skills required for living during the early days of the Depreciation Lands. You will learn the history and lore of the area along with techniques such as cooking over an open fire, flint lock fire arms, spinning yarn and the shelters appropriate for your unit. Both Pioneers and Indians will be recruited for the Militia, as in pioneer times.

You will receive an historically appropriate costume to borrow and wear during the camp. Tuition also includes all materials and supplies.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to become part of history!

Pre-paid Registration is required. Fees for the week-long camp are $100.00 for non-member children. A discount is available for children of members immediate families.
