Petruska Among Eight Inductees

Deer Lakes High School graduate Dana Elder Petruska will be one of eight inductees at this year's Alle-Kiski Valley Sports Hall of Fame banquet.

The event will be May 19 at the New Kensington Quality Inn.

Petruska played for Deer Lakes in the early days of girls high school basketball before heading to Pitt. She currently coaches the Mars High School girls basketball team has advanced to the state semifinals.

Petruska's coaching career has spanned 30 years and has included stops at Deer Lakes and Butler. Her teams have made the WPIAL playoffs 20 times. Petruska has collected nearly 440 coaching victories and she is a long-time teacher in the Mars Area School District.

Other inductees will be Gus Frerotte (Ford City and NFL football), Chad Hanna (Ken High and Valley athletics); Chip Young (Freeport and William & Mary football), Lewis Lawhorn (Kiski Area and Temple athletics), Patrick McHenry (Arnold, Valley and Wake Forest athletics) and two posthumous inductees, Dr. Rudy Mattioli (Har-Brack and Pitt football) and John Briscoe (Oakmont and Arizona football).
